Others in the photograph are: Corporal (later Lieutenant Colonel) ‘Monty’ Truscot (fifth row, far left), and Signalman Ernie Coates, who survived the sinking of the Lisbon Maru, only to die in Japan on 26 November 1942 (fourth row, sixth from left).
